Damn Blogspot

I had this post I had done about the issue of abortion, yes I was doing a serious post for once in my life. However, Blogspot, in all its wonder and glory, decided that when I hit 'publish post', it was going to say, 'this page is unavailable'. I was so pissed. Basically, in a nutshell now, this is what I have to say: overturning Roe vs Wade is something that scares the hell out of me. Not because it is something I think I could or would ever need/have to do, but because no crusty old man halfway across the country has any right whatsoever to tell me or any woman what we can and can not do with our bodies. My body is my own personal property and if I were ever in the situation where I would have to make a decision about it, I don't know what I would do, but I do know that it a decision up to me and me alone, not some old men on the Supreme Court who don't know me and never will. Did you know that roughly a year or so ago when this was being discussed so heavily again in the courts, that a law was being pushed through that didn't have any provision whatsoever allowing abortion for victims of rape, and women who would likely die from complications if she were to give birth. That just boggles my mind. I can't believe that and if you are not upset about this issue one way or another, then you just aren't paying attention.

My post was much longer than this originally and much better thought out and was a better quality of writing, but alas, apparently Blogspot is pro-life and didn't want me to post. (I'm kind of kidding about this, though it does seem strange that of the three posts I have ever lost, two have been about religion and one has been about abortion). If you want a better, well-written and blunt argument, definitely go read Tobin's post about this topic, and Alito's confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Something else that spurred this post was something I stumbled across on Facebook. There is actually a group called "Your Mom is Pro-Life". I don't have words for that. Just, wow. That's still all I can say, even a few hours later. Wow.

On a completely unrelated and lighter note, here is something I was thinking about at work last night: If I was going to make counterfeit bills, I wouldn't be stupid and make 1000 dollar bills and 5000 dollar bills. That's stupid. I would make 10s and 20s, because everyone always has those and it doesn't look suspicious if you go into a bank and deposit a few 20s at a time. Also, there is this nifty little marker that we sell/use at work that we use to check all the 100 and 50 dollar bills we receive. You mark the bill and if the place you marked it turns dark brown or black, it is fake, but if it is a light brown or tan, then it is real - until counterfeiters figure out a way around that of course. But seriously, wouldn't it just be smarter to make small bills? I don't know, I guess that is why I don't make fake money.

You are so cool! I love that I got a shout out on your blog. Seriously, i feel like I made it. I don't mean to fuel your anger but I should tell you... I tend to keep up on reproductive rights issues (kinda my passion) and I have bad news.

South Dakota just turned down state legislation that would have said "Any man who fathers a child through rape or incest has no parental rights." This was overturned because children need fathers and deserve rights to visit their children (and victims?)

Also in S.D. a measure was defeated that would have required hospitals or medical outlets to provide information about emergency contraception to rape victims.

One legistlator said, "In a woman's distraught condition, she would not have known what to do.”

Wow, thank you for victimizing someone again by saying they are too emotional or stupid to make a health-related, and HUGE decision about their body...

Oh I could go on... but it's too sad.

Again, wow. That is ridiculous that the state wouldn't allow this legislation to be passed! The fact that they would basically say that a man who has already traumatized a woman once will be given the chance to do it over and over again but visiting her child? Wow, I just...wow. Also, I am not sure how or why legislators feel that women would not be able to make a decision about their own health and bodies, I would think that in a situation like that, it is not a decision any woman could come to lightly, regardless of emotional state. Wow. I fel that much more helpless, but thank you for keeping me updated. Even if it makes me angry, I feel all women need to know what is going on, should they ever find themselves in this situation.
